In West Texas, you literally step back in time on this hunting adventure. This is one of the oldest and most prestigious ranches in all of west Texas. It’s rare to have the opportunity in today’s world of sub-dividing ranches to hunt one of this size. Its enormity is difficult to grasp.
The ranch supports a healthy population of Auodad sheep.Challenging and smart, these sheep rival the Desert Bighorns in Arizona and Sonora, Mexico for trophy and quality of the hunt.
Over the years, some of the rams taken while glassing and spotting and stalking have exceeded 32″ in length. This ranch will have rams that go into the 34″ range. Average is 28″- 32″.
Make NO mistake, a free-ranging Aoudad is NOT easy to hunt. They are quite elusive and a great trophy to have. They simply are a treat to hunt (if you enjoy hunting).
The rut occurs in September/October and we have seen a lot of sheep on the ranch over the years from October to March. There are only 4 rams harvested each year on guided hunts.

AUODAD AND BIGHORN SHEEP HUNTS

Our Aoudad (Barbary Sheep) hunts take place in the mountains of West Texas. This area has some of the largest parcels of uninhabited land left in the lower 48 states. The total amount of private land hunted equals up to 350,000 acres. Our outfitter only takes 4 rams per year from the ranch on guided hunts.
The ranch is a sheep hunter’s delight. Rough and rocky and hasthe typical desert habitat. Please note: This is true mountain hunting at it’s finest! Taking quality rams is no accident. You have to be hunting where the gene pool is excellent and on large properties that have had little hunting pressure. Hunters see good numbers of sheep on these hunts. It is also very important to note that these sheep have been wild and free ranging since the mid-1940s.
We consider the Barbary Bighorn to be a native species as they have been roaming the Southwest mountains for over 60 years. The ranch has low rolling hills to steep mountainous terrain. It will help to be in shape, because half of this hunt will be on foot in the mountains. The elevations range from 4500-7000 feet.
The gear that you need to bring is your rifle, binoculars, day bag or light backpack, and personal gear You will stay in a modest ranch quarters. A good light rifle in calibers from 270-300 mag will do fine. A well broken in pair of leather boots with a good vibram sole is a must. All of these rams harvested average 9- 10 years of age.
These hunts are 4 days in length and are fully guided with two hunters to one guide. Non hunters are welcome for an additional fee. Temperatures will range from 20-85 degrees.

Outfitter and his guides are not just guides, they are mountain sheep guides. He knows how to locate and stalk big mature rams. He uses the highest quality optics (Zeiss & Leica) to locate and evaluate trophy rams before he attempts a stalk. He can tell from 1-2 miles away the difference between a big mature ram (10+ years) vs a lesser ram. Once he locates a trophy ram, he knows how to get you into position and finish the job.
Javelinas may also be taken on this hunt if time permits, at an additional charge. Make plans to be hunting sheep mid-September through March.
